Sugar! Sugar! Sugar!

Jones Pure Cane Soda
no corn syrup in this can
just yummy goodness

Jones Soda is a cool local Seattle company that switched all of their soda over to 100% cane sugar a while ago. If you can find it where you live give it a try its much better than the stuff Coke and Pepsi put out.

Posse Comitatus

does doing the right
sometimes means doing the wrong
for the greater good

I just watched the West Wing episode Posse Comitatus where, among other things, President Bartlett orders the assassination of Sharif the Defense Minister of Qumar because Sharif is plotting terrorist attacks against the U.S. This episode is one of the best because of the way it weaves several plot lines together to tell a greater story. Posse Comitatus always makes me think of whether the ends can justify the means in all cases.

Ah College...

oh Bacardi rum
why did I ever mix you
with Dr. Pepper?

This is a true story. One Saturday night my roommate Mike and I were down to a bottle of Bacardi 151 and a 2 liter bottle of Dr. Pepper and thought...what the heck, how bad could it be. NEVER. EVER. MIX. BACARDI 151. WITH. DR. PEPPER.

SUGAR!

real coca-cola
comes only from mexico
no corn syrup there

This haiku brought to you by Kerrie, my wonderful wife who stumbled into a strange grocery store in Rainier and found some rare Coca-Cola with REAL sugar. Apparently they only make it in Mexico for some reason. *cough* corn lobby *cough*

Kerrie's Haiku-A-Day

My wife Kerrie may be joining me in posting haiku. I want her to commit to doing at least one a day but she wont so I guess I'll take what I can get.

A Very Talented Lion

woman attacked by
machete wielding lion
most lions use claws

Here is the article that inspired this poem:

Woman riding a donkey fights off lion with machete
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ACAPULCO, Mexico -- A Mexican woman said she fought a 500-pound lion with a machete near the resort city of Acapulco and scared him away. Celsa Aleman said she and her 7-year-old niece were riding a donkey Monday along a road when the lion went after the animal's legs.

The 35-year-old woman says she found the courage to fight the lion because she thought it would attack her niece. She hit the animal with a machete until the beast ran away. Aleman and her niece were unharmed.

The state government said in a statement that the lion had escaped from a private zoo owned by a former local congressman.

It said the animal killed two dogs and ate a pig before it was sedated and taken back to the zoo.

I'm glad the woman and her niece are ok, but honestly, doesn't anyone at AP read over these things before they put them out?

Why Haiku-A-Day?

I've been writing haiku for a long time...oh probably about 10 years or so. Mostly, I just write them down on pieces of paper and promptly lose them. At one point I started writing them down in a notebook I carried in my pocket (along with various grand schemes and ideas) but I was mugged and the muggers got away with my notebook thinking it was my wallet. (Yeah not the smartest muggers in the world.)

So anyway, why haiku-a-day? I decided to do this for two reasons; to encourage me to write more and to keep me from losing all of the haiku I do write. I welcome any comments but no spam please.
